It is all about your creative communication

Tanushree passed out from IIMC in 2006. She did Advertising and Public Relations course from the institute. Tanu is currently working as an Academic Associate at Ad-PR department in IIMC.
Before this, Tanu worked in areas like Corporate Communication and Event Management. But somehow academic pulled her its way and thus She joined the institute. Simultaneously Tanu is pursuing PhD program from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
I Know getting into IIMC is a dream for all of you. And I am not wrong when I say it’s all about how creatively you can communicate in terms of both writing and speaking. I remember in my GD, I was asked very simple questions on my life and thoughts and ideologies but the jury was not expecting just plain answers, they were expecting creative answers.

So here are some tips to cut the competition:

Write Creatively:
So what does writing creatively means; If you notice the previous years question papers, you will realize that the questions and topics asked to write about are not very complicated ones like their could be topics like female feticide or Polio eradication campaign. Anybody who is reading little bit newspaper or watching TV can write on this. But the essence is how well you can write in the said word limit, what all things you have shared which can connect you with the Ad-PR course. It’s not only putting your thoughts but putting thing which shows your link as well as writing skills.

Be Aware:
This goes without saying that you have to be a sound knowledge of what is happening in the world, India and obviously what are the issues media has spoken about in the past year and issues on which media (Indian as well as global) was involved/held responsible. Read newspapers not one but at least two. Watch television, be it news channels, soap operas or movies.

Watch Movies:
There could be a question to write on a particular movie, so if not less, you can watch at least top 5 good movies of the year especially who are critic’s favorites. The answer should not only cover the summary but should be a critical summary.

Ad-PR Connection
Last but not the least; when you are applying for Ad-PR course, you should be aware of the industry. You should have knowledge of landmark campaigns that has cut the clichéd and some important campaigns of the recent years too. You should also be aware of who (brand) is saying what (tagline/positioning). Obviously they are not expecting you to be an expert coz for this you are applying to the course but least have a fair knowledge which can work as a prelude to the course.

Also you should be aware of the famous adverting personalities. To be updated for all the Advertising and PR related activity you can read on www.afaqs.com, wwww.excahnge4media.com and Brand Equity on Wednesdays with The Economic Times.

I hope this works for you.

See you at IIMC…
