7 Point Programme for AD-PR

Manik Bhargava is 2005-06 batch passout of AD-PR Dept. SAIL selected him from IIMC campus and is currently posted as Assistant Manager in Delhi.
Hi all,

I guess you would be running short of time. I have a simple ‘7 Point Programme’ for you.  I worked for me, hope it does the same for you -

1.      Watch or see as many advertisements as possible. (Source: TV channels, http://www.afaqs.com/ )
2.      Try and read up on basic components of advertising like Target Audience, Message, Reach etc. (You can find it on any site that deals with Advertising, Google karo..)
3.      After you have done this try and go back to the advertisements and correlate with the ads or campaigns you went through in the first place. (You might want to use these examples)
4.      Next, try and understand why advertising is being done, to achieve what, how and when.
5.      For public relations look at all the big news in the past year or so, try and concentrate on news where there has been a dialogue between parties through media. (This is how PR works. You would get to know how people have tried to sell you an opinion media included. Use this to quote as examples or during Written or GD etc.)
6.      After you get a fair idea of all these, just go berserk and write the paper. (Note: Write crisp and to the point.)
7.      After selection come back and thank us.

These are the Seven Points to consider. Besides, these remember you do not need to know everything just have basic awareness. Try and correlate you knowledge of recent events with the happenings around you.

And one more just thing try to make an effort to put forth your views and make the examiner feel you are a thinking individual. Mugging up terms will not help if you do not understand what they stand for.

Hope all goes Well….

My wishes to all of You
Manik Bhargava
