Oriya Journalism- Is it your cup of tea?

Before going through this article please do not think that Oriya journalism is the last resort. The scenario at Oriya media circle is changing rapidly and here also sky is the limit.

I was just talking to Arindam Das, one of my IIMC buddy today. His one report was sufficient enough to cause removal of Mr. Vinay Behra the commissioner of police, twin city.

Frankly speaking, the questions asked for Oriya journalism are generally tougher than English Journalism. But the solace is that you have to express yourself in the language you are familiar with.

As far as general knowledge is concerned, I would say that you must refresh yourself before the exam.

For this season, they might ask the honeymoon between mafias and bureaucracy. Kandhmal communal riot is also among the most probable. As this is the election year, you may be asked to evaluate Mr Naveen patnayak's tenure.

As far as the abbreviation and who's who part is concerned, go through last three months current affairs. Prepare questions like the review of the Oriya movie you watched last, your favorite Oriya newspaper and channel, the Oriya novel you like most. One of these questions is most probable.

As per my knowledge, 50% is the most suitable score to crack the written test.

Once you are called for the Interview, be prepared with your local and district issues.

Most probable interviewees are Mr Gaurahari Das, Barah Mishra, Ashok Mohapatra etc. They are persons of high expertise and in the field of cause based journalism for more than 10 years. So, do not try to be over smart before them as they know your local issues better than you do. Make it a friendly conversation and you will be a gainer.

Mr chattrjee will definitely ask the question- As Oriya media is paying only 4k per month in starting, then why going for it? Answer this question carefully.

Prospects in Oriya media is expected to reach its all time high in coming years. I always believe- If you can not change then be a part of the change.

Hope to see you on the IIMC foundation day at Dhenknal. Wish you all the very best.
