Take A Stand And Make Your Points Clear

A Delhi University graduate and an IIMC alumna of Ad-PR, 2013-14 batch, Pavni Sood works as a Consultant at PR Pundit. A travel enthusiast and foodie she is someone who will know about every new place opened in town.

So you cleared the IIMC ADPR entrance exam? Congratulations! You’re just one step away from being a part of the ADPR batch of 2014-15. As far as the GD/PI go let me start by giving very basic advice. Please be dressed formally. Half your battle is won if you present yourself in a neat and formal manner.

When it comes to the GD, trust me, no amount of Google will help you in this. The topics can range from describing a dot or a wave to politics to debating about yin and yang or the importance of the number zero. Remember when such topics are given to you and you just have about two minutes to write down your points you must think beyond the obvious and make your point in a confident manner. Starting first in a GD is not at all important but taking a stand and making your point is. Don’t try and shoot down people by talking in a loud voice and always interjecting in between. Hear them out and if you disagree do it in a polite manner. It always helps if you address the person by his/her name as it gives a more formal and professional touch to the discussion. After the GD is over everyone has 30 seconds to sum up the discussion. During this time take a stand and make your points clear.

As far as the PI goes start by greeting everyone in the room. The questions can be pretty unexpected at times so stay calm and confident and if you don’t know an answer be honest. It is always appreciated. All answers to obvious questions like why advertising/PR or why IIMC should already be prepared in your head. As far as the answers to unexpected questions go just go with your gut and stick to it. Changing your stand again and again will just show under confidence so one should try to avoid doing that. Try making the PI interactive instead of it being like a plain question and answer round. After you are done with your interview don’t forget to thank everyone for their time.

IIMC is a place that will give you more than just a postgraduate diploma. With the best people in the industry teaching you, you come out as a confident and smart person. Yes, you will have to let go of many of your weekends and social life but it will all be worth it and this realization will only happen once you finish your nine months in this course and step out in the real world. So for those of you who make it don’t crib about the workload just enjoy as I guarantee it will be the best time and learning of your life.

ALL THE BEST EVERYONE!
